Find Your Path As a Volunteer EMT Through PWCFRS EMS
Do you ever hear people talk about their life path? A pretty high percentage stress over whether or not they are headed down the right road, in their career and their relationship. While we can’t help you with the relationship part, we do have one path for you that leads to great things – becoming a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with Prince William Fire and Rescue System’s (PWFRS) Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
5 Reasons to Become a Volunteer EMT Through PWCFRS EMS
At PWCFRS, we know the power of volunteerism. We see our efforts making a difference and saving the lives of Prince William County residents every day – and night! Did you know that at Stonewall Jackson Volunteer Fire and Rescue, for example, more than 80 percent of calls require some type of emergency medical services? And that’s just one of our stations. EMT services are in high demand. Here are our top five reasons you should come join us as a volunteer EMT:
- You save lives as part of our team. While EMTs perform the basic lifesaving skills, covering these essential duties frees up the Advanced Lifesaving Team to apply their more complex skills. Taking vitals, bandaging, delivering oxygen…all are essential, life-saving tasks needed on calls.
- You won’t believe how satisfying it is. As a member of our EMT team, you will know you’re needed. There will always be people in need of basic emergency medical attention. Using your skills and compassion and transporting the sick and injured to the hospital for the care they need delivers “job” satisfaction like you would never believe. Having the power to help others empowers you on an incredible level.
- You’ll be part of a team that’s more like family. When you spend 24 hours at a time with your fellow volunteers, there’s a special kind of bonding that takes place. We are a family, and we learn from each other, cheer each other on, help each other in all areas of life, and provide support as we advance through the certification stages. Together, we will be in on the action, practicing hands-on lifesaving skills and working together for the good of the community.
- You can get a jump on your career. Being a volunteer EMT can help you determine your career path if you’re interested in being a paramedic or other medical professional, like a doctor or nurse. Being part of our EMT team is the most valuable and direct experience you can get. You’ll be able to advance through the levels, shadow certified EMTs, get assistance with your own certification courses — and make sure that you’re actually A-OK with blood and bodily fluids. Hey, it’s a big part of the job.
- You can share your compassion (and your strong stomach) with others. There are many ways to volunteer in our community, but few involve saving lives. If you feel led to help in a major way, bring that compassion to PWCFRS. You’ll learn to handle equipment, stock ambulances, take orders, network with supervisors and take your own classes for certification. We can’t think of a better way to use a caring heart that wants to serve!
We know the amazing benefits of becoming a volunteer through PWCFRS are appealing to many civic-minded, dedicated professionals looking for something different.
