PWCFRS Holiday Service Projects: Raising Funds and Spreading Joy

Here at Prince William Fire and Rescue System, volunteerism and creating a strong community are two of our greatest collective values. We serve our communities daily in fire and rescue roles, but we don’t stop there. Throughout the year, and especially at the holidays, our members seek out additional ways to give back to the communities in which we live and serve.

This holiday season, our volunteer fire departments were involved in a variety of service projects. Through these endeavors, we were able to deliver extra holiday spirit within Prince William County and in return, experience the best of our communities.

Each of our stations served as collection points for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. Being drop-off points for this holiday program showed us the generosity and warmth that makes Prince William County so wonderful. In addition to collecting toys at the departments, our Dale City department attended Cub Scout Pack 501’s meeting in December where they were presented with 45 new toys for Toys for Tots. We were proud to see such incredible community service from these children. (There may be some future volunteers in their mix!)

Our OWL station also raised funds for St. Baldrick’s, a cancer research and support non-profit organization. Money raised will be used to find a cure for childhood cancer and to financially support families with children battling the disease.

And last but not least, many of our stations took their trucks out into area neighborhoods last month, and not for fire and rescue calls! Santa himself hitched rides with our volunteer teams to greet children throughout our community. It was an honor to escort the man in red and witness the smiles on our neighbors’ faces — both young and old.

PWCFRS is proud to serve Prince William County year-round. We have a variety of volunteer positions available — from administrative to EMT. Give us a call to discuss our opportunities, and come join our community filled with supportive volunteers who live to give back.
